5.1. What do we need to know before we start planning a canine rabies control programme?

The epidemiology of rabies in your area
The reservoir species in your area
How rabies is transmitted
Tools available for assessing the progress of rabies control programmes
The Stepwise Approach Towards Rabies Elimination is a self-assessment tool that was created to assist national governments in the development and implementation of national rabies control strategies. This document proposes a list of recommended milestones and activities in a stepwise manner.
